####### D-Sides ~ Frequently Asked Questions #######

 - Here's some general questions i got asked a lot over the years. I hope it can help you out!
 	- Be aware that the "Historical" section contains spoilers. The "General" section should be safe to look at, though.

### General ###

Q: Help, i'm having trouble with {some gameplay section}!
A: There's a bunch of things you can do to help yourself:

-If a room is plain frustrating, try taking a 5-minute break! ...or even just leave it and try again later. Breaks are awesome!

-If you want to know the solution for a section or just see someone beat it, there is an official Walkthrough available: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJSYSt5OUlUNnDbQCEg8LV-NnSDGK3369
-You can also ask me in the comments there for help.
-Asking me anywhere else is fine too. Discord specifically will most likely have the least waiting time.

-There is a mod called Speedrun Tool, which features the option to use Save States: https://gamebanana.com/tools/6597
-I personally recommend this over the vanilla Assist Mode, as you still get to experience the same gameplay.

-There is the vanilla Assist Mode option which is, of course, also entirely valid to use.
-However, be warned this may make some puzzle less interesting to solve. (apart from Dash Assist and Game Speed, of course)

-I'd also advise against using the F6 Debug Map if you can help it, as it could break some things or spoil what's up ahead.
-For plainly skipping rooms, Assist Mode's Invincibility option should work fine.
-Should you still want to use the F6 Debug Map, remember to check the controls with F5.
-If something breaks (like lighting, bloom, core mode, amount of dashes, ground refills, etc.), warping to the latest Checkpoint Spawn Point (3x3 green box) and then warping back to the room you were in (without holding Ctrl) should fix it. This is mostly relevant in 9D.

### How to access stuff - Dark Sides ###

Q: What are Dark Sides?
A: Dark Sides are mostly remixes / gimmick versions of their D-Side counterparts. However, there are also some entirely original screens.

Q: How do i unlock the Dark Sides?
A: The same way you unlock B-Sides in vanilla Celeste, by finding the hidden Cassette in each Chapter.
-You can see in which Checkpoint they are hidden by looking for the rectangle-shaped shadow in the Checkpoint Selection Menu.
-To make things less frustrating, they're always hidden in the first room of the Checkpoint.

Q: Is there a Dark Side for each Chapter?
A: Only 1-4Dark exist as of right now. However, i may add more in the future if i feel like it!

### How to access stuff - Other ###

Q: How do i access the D-Sides Golden Strawberries?
A: You'll need to use Cheat Mode, use the "cheat" command, or play on the ~DEBUG~ Save File which you can get by enabling Debug Mode in the Mod Options.
-Allegedly, you can unlock them by beating all the chapters in the campaign, but i've never actually seen anyone successfully unlocking them like this.

Q: How do i play the old D-Sides, and the unused E-Sides?
A: You can find them in-game in the seperate "Celeste D-Sides - Museum" campaign. Some of the maps in there also have B-Sides that you can access via Cheat Mode or the ~DEBUG~ Save File.

### Final Goodbye aka. 9D ###

Q: How many keys does the Moonberry in 9D require?
A: It requires 20 keys. The maximum amount of keys you can bring there is 24. Meaning you may skip/miss up to 4 keys.
-If you're going for Moonberry, i recommend the official 9D Moonberry Guide, which is as spoiler-free as possible:

### Historical ###

Q: When did you first start working on D-Sides?
A: According to my own research, the 15th of June 2018 (15.06.2018) is when i started working on my first Celeste map, which would eventually become the old Core D-Side. This is the reason why the D-Sides Anniversary is on the 15th of June.

Q: When did 9D, aka. Final Goodbye release?
A: On 10.03.2020, probably

Q: What was the order you created the chapters in?
A: This is the order, as far as i can remember: [Old 8D, Old Old 7D, Old 7D, Old 6D, 8E, 7E, Old 3D, 5D, 4D, 2D, 1D, Prologue, New 7D, New 8D, New 3D (called 3Dark until v4.54.0), New 6D, 6E, Epilogue, Old Final Goodbye, New Final Goodbye/New New 3D/1Dark/2Dark/Post-Epilogue/Old 8Ds Mashup, New Final Goodbye Platinum Rooms, 3Dark, 4Dark]
Note: I don't remember when exactly i did Old 7D v2.0, so i just put Old Old 7D and Old 7D in the same place. I think the newer one was somewhere around there anyway.
Note: I also don't remember when exactly 8E and 7E were made but they're somewhere around that time
Note: 6E is an unfinished prototype and isn't currently available.
Note: And i don't totally remember whether 4D or 5D came first.
Note: And and i don't remember when Epilogue was made. I just remember it was in the same development time as New 8D, New 3D, New 6D and Old Final Goodbye. I also started working on it right before a vacation.
Note: New Final Goodbye, New New 3D, 1Dark, 2Dark and 8Ds Mashup were developed over the same timeframe, so i just put them together. I listed them in the order i started them.
Note: 1D and Prologue were initially released together with the full D-Sides Pack. Before that, 2-8D were uploaded as standalone versions.

Q: Why did you start with 8D instead of going in order?
A: Old 8D was originally just an edit of the original Core B-Side map file. I like challenging maps and 8B was the hardest vanilla map at the time that wasn't a c-side. I was also fascinated with requiring Lava Super Wall Jumps (Lavawallbounces) and playing around with the various Core mechanics, so it just worked out like that. I just decided to call it "Core D" when i first released it, because it was vaguely fitting. Then after that point i became more and more interested in making D-Sides a fully-fledged thing.

Q: Is Final Goodbye the Farewell D-Side?
A: Yes. They are one and the same. "Farewell D-Side" is technically correct, though "Final Goodbye" is the actual name.

Q: What were the major updates to the D-Sides Pack?
A: Here's a list of the most important ones:
-v1.0 "The D-Sides Pack"	This is the initial release.
-v2.0 "Now with New 7D and a lot of small changes"	This is the update that added New 7D.
-v3.0 "Farewell." This huge update added 9D, New 3D, New 6D and New 8D.
-v3.6 "Randomizer Update"	This update added the D-Sides Randomizer.
-v4.0 "The Resolutive Dance of Madeline and Monika" This huge update completely overhauled 9D, added New New 3D, 1Dark, 2Dark, Post-Epilogue, introduced the D-Sides Museum, and more. (check Patchnotes.txt for full details)
-v4.54.0 "Darkness Approaches"	This update added (actually new) 3Dark and 4Dark.
This is, of course, hugely simplified. There are a lot of changes in each update. Check Patchnotes.txt for more info.

Q: Are the D-Sides purely vanilla?
A: Yes, pretty much. There are some custom entities such as Invisible Cassette Blocks or Fast Oshiro, but these are only there to make things possible that were possible in vanilla. Invisible Cassette Blocks in particular were possible to create before by making the Cassette Blocks an unusual size (like 7x7 pixels), but some Celeste update indirectly broke them which made them visible, so a custom entity had to be made. Fast Oshiro is just an Oshiro with a customizable timing window, making it possible to replicate the 3B/3C Oshiro.

### Museum ###

Q: What is Old 8Ds Mashup, and why does it exist?
A: There are certain differences between the oldest and most recent versions of Old 8D, for example:
-Old Old 8D has 11 red strawberries, while Old 8D only has 7(?).
-Old Old 8D's cassette block room is entirely different
These changes are worth keeping, but most of the two maps is practically identical, meaning that you'd basically be playing through the same map twice. So i used Old Old 8D as the base, made sure all the berries from both versions are there, and included both cassette block rooms at the end. This should showcase the most interesting stuff of both of the Old 8Ds.

Q: What is 7D Blades Edition aka. "5bfv", and why does it exist?
A: This map was made as a joke and does not count for 100%. It originally wasn't playtested at all, though the version included here has a bunch of improvements which i did playtest a bit. It was also originally called "5bgv", but i decided to rename it as i don't like the original name.

Q: What's Old Old 7D, and how is it different from Old 7D?
A: Old Old 7D is the first release of my first map made entirely from scratch. Old 7D is the most recent update to it. (v2.74)

	The Old Old 7D includes:
-An incredibly short 3000M-type section with about 3 rooms and no Checkpoint Flags. (they weren't available in Ahorn back then)
	    -A Crystal Heart Room
	    -A Reflection-themed Checkpoint past the 2500M-type section.
	    -A Core-themed Checkpoint
-A potential crash in the top-right key room in 2500M (if you get crushed while attempting to leave the room)
-A key in 2500M that's nearly impossible to collect without dying
-Funky Checkpoint names (replicated exactly as they were)
-My first attempts at decoration in Celeste

	The Old 7D includes:
-An entirely reworked 3000M with 15 Flags, which includes some historic sights such as the first instance of the White Cloud Double-Jump, and the infamous Flag 7 Up-Wind Feathers.
-Regular Ch.7 Checkpoint names + Meter Marker decals
	    -Fixes and tweaks
	    -Improved decorations
